Robots for orderpicking?
Are you also considering optimizing the order picking process?
Would you like to move from a person-to-goods to a goods-to-person process?
We’d be happy to explain how robots can help.
Advice on automating your warehouse?
What is the benefit of robots?
Robots can provide a solution in the process of order picking, by increasing productivity and reducing the number of kilometers to be walked by order pickers. The robots not only realize a strong improvement in your picking process, but also a more compact storage. This allows you to store more products in the same space.
The benefits at a glance:
- Less errors
- Increased productivity
- No walking distances
- Relief of employees during heavy work
- Scalability; you can start with a small base of robots and then expand modularly
- Up to 450 picks per hour per operator
How does robot picking work?
The robot positions itself under the rack section and brings the complete section to the picking zone. So you go from a “person-to-goods” to a “goods-to-person process”.
At the pick zone, the order picker is controlled by a pointer that lights up at the correct article.
The operator places the item in the correct order bin.
After all items are picked from the rack, the robot makes way for the next robot with items. The complete process from replenishment to picking is controlled by the WMS.

How does a Warehouse Management System work?
A WMS is an advanced computer system that ensures the optimal execution of internal logistics processes. The Warehouse Management Software works closely with the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and the WCS (Warehouse Control System), which controls the hardware. Together, these three systems form the technical backbone that supports a company’s warehouse operations.
Optimizing daily operations
Based on information from the ERP, the WMS manages the day-to-day activities. The WMS software converts an order from the ERP into logistical tasks. This includes determining what needs to be picked up and where in the warehouse, while also taking packing requirements into account—such as placing the heaviest items at the bottom of a package. In addition, the Warehouse Management System monitors performance and generates reports, giving you better insights into inventory levels and key performance indicators (KPIs).
