The warehouse control system

Efficient control of mechanised and automated material handling systems is essential for flawless processing. The warehouse control system (WCS) controls and monitors the various processes and sub-processes. A WCS is therefore indispensable in complex deployment scenarios.

How does a warehouse control system work?

A warehouse control system (WCS) is a software application used to manage and control material handling systems. It is essentially the link between the warehouse management system (WMS) and the intralogistics systems on the shop floor. The WCS ensures the efficient and accurate operation of conveyors, shuttles, pick to light systems, AGVs and automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS). The WCS controls the various systems on the basis of predetermined and real-time data. The software also continuously monitors performance, enabling a rapid and appropriate response when necessary or desirable. This ensures optimal utilisation of the systems and maximum efficiency.
